Adults

Make it

At the Emotion Centre, we offer a collaborative and specialized approach to supporting adults in their healing journey from eating disorders, utilizing the evidence-based modalities of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) tailored to meet the individual needs of each client. These therapeutic approaches address the complex emotional, cognitive, and behavioral aspects of eating disorders in adulthood, fostering lasting recovery and well-being. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is instrumental in helping adults challenge and reframe distorted thoughts and behaviors related to food, body image, and self-worth. By working to identify and modify maladaptive beliefs, CBT empowers individuals to develop healthier attitudes towards food, body image, and self-esteem, fostering positive coping strategies and self-care practices. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) equips adults with skills for emotion regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness, essential in managing intense emotions and impulsivity commonly associated with eating disorders. DBT assists individuals in building emotional resilience, developing healthy coping mechanisms, and enhancing interpersonal relationships, enabling effective emotion management and self-care. Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) allows adults to explore and process deep-seated emotions underlying their eating disorder behaviors, such as shame, guilt, or trauma. Through EFT, individuals can address emotional wounds, promote self-compassion, and cultivate healthier ways of coping with emotional challenges, facilitating emotional healing and personal growth. In addition to therapy, we recognize the importance of integrating dietitians and medical professionals into the treatment team. Dietitians play a crucial role in providing nutritional support, meal planning guidance, and education on balanced eating practices for adult clients recovering from eating disorders. Their expertise helps individuals establish a healthy relationship with food and develop sustainable eating habits tailored to their specific needs. Medical monitoring by healthcare professionals specializing in eating disorders ensures the physical health and safety of adults throughout their recovery journey. Regular medical assessments, monitoring of vital signs, and addressing any potential medical complications are vital components of holistic treatment, supporting clients in achieving overall health and well-being. At the Emotion Centre, our comprehensive approach integrates CBT, DBT, and EFT with the expertise of dietitians and medical professionals, offering a collaborative and personalized path to healing for adults overcoming eating disorders. By addressing emotional, cognitive, behavioral, nutritional, and medical aspects of eating disorders, we empower adults to navigate their recovery journey, promote self-compassion, and foster lasting well-being and fulfillment.

Adolescents

Make it

At the Emotion Centre, our comprehensive and specialized approach to supporting adolescents in healing from eating disorders encompasses a range of evidence-based modalities tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual. We integrate Family-Based Treatment (FBT), Emotion-Focused Skills Training for Parents (EFST-P), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) to address the complex emotional, cognitive, and behavioral aspects of eating disorders among adolescents. Family-Based Treatment (FBT) and Emotion-Focused Family Therapy for Eating Disorders (EFST-P) play key roles in our therapeutic interventions, emphasizing the importance of parental involvement in the treatment process. FBT involves the active participation of parents in supporting their adolescent's recovery, empowering them to take an active role in meal support, symptom management, and fostering a positive family environment conducive to healing. EFST-P focuses on addressing family dynamics and emotional connections to promote understanding and resilience within the family system, supporting both the adolescent and their caregivers in navigating the challenges of an eating disorder. In addition to family involvement, our approach incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to target maladaptive thoughts and behaviors related to food and body image, providing adolescents with strategies to challenge negative beliefs and develop healthier coping mechanisms. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) equips adolescents with skills for emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness, enhancing their ability to manage intense emotions and navigate interpersonal challenges. Furthermore, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) is employed to deepen emotional awareness, promote self-compassion, and address underlying emotional issues that may contribute to disordered eating behaviors. By fostering emotional expression and healing, EFT supports adolescents in developing healthier ways of relating to themselves and their bodies. While therapeutic interventions are vital, we also recognize the importance of medical monitoring by a healthcare professional specializing in eating disorders. Regular medical check-ups and monitoring ensure the physical health and safety of adolescents, monitoring progress, addressing any medical complications, and providing essential support alongside the therapeutic interventions. At the Emotion Centre, our integrated approach emphasizes the collaboration of evidence-based therapeutic modalities, family involvement, and medical support to provide comprehensive care for adolescents healing from eating disorders. By addressing emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and medical aspects of eating disorders with a holistic approach, we empower adolescents and their families to navigate the challenges of recovery, cultivate resilience, and foster lasting healing and well-being.
